CenTex Astronomy Weekend
April 25-26, 2008

CenTex Astronomy Weekend will be on April 25 & 26, 2008, at Canyon of the Eagles Lodge and Nature Park, a Lower Colorado River Authority Park located in Burnet County, TX.

CenTex will begin at Sunset on Friday, April 25, with a public star party at the Eagle Eye Observatory.

Saturday, April 26, will be a day full of astronomy and space science related activities for all Canyon of the Eagles guests and the public. Activities will include making astronomy and science crafts, solar observing, an exhibit of entry-level telescopes and binoculars, and other activities.

Saturday afternoon, there will be two indoor presentations.

• Dr. Chris Sneden, from the UT Astronomy Department, will present "Are We Alone? The Search for Extrasolar Planets". Dr. Sneden is the current holder of the Rex C. Baker, Jr., Centennial Research Professorship in Astronomy. He is also Letters Editor of the Astrophysical Journal.
• Mr. Bill Tschumy will present "An Introduction to the Night Sky". Mr. Tschumy, a member of the Austin Astronomical Society, has been active in amateur astronomy for 23 years. In 2006, Mr. Tschumy founded the website Think Astronomy to help promote amateur astronomy in the Austin area. He wrote "Where is M13?", a free software application that shows the 3-D locations and physical properties of deep sky objects in and around our galaxy.

Saturday night there will be another public star party at the Eagle Eye Observatory.
